How much do we already know about Claire's parents so far in Outlander?

While Outlander: Blood of My Blood was initially promoted as Ellen and Brian’s love story, we’ve found out that we’ll also jump to the 1910s. We’ll get to see Claire’s parents.

The story of Claire’s parents is one that hasn’t been covered a lot in the world of Outlander. Diana Gabaldon continually shares how she doesn’t find them interesting, so she isn’t going to write about them. She doesn’t work with the theories of fans in that both time travelled somewhere.

So, we’re going into the story a little blind. What do we know about Claire’s parents so far?

Claire’s parents died when she was young

Outlander tells us quickly that Claire’s parents died when she was just five. It makes sense then that we don’t get a lot of information about them. She wouldn’t have known a lot, and everything she heard would have been stories from her Uncle Lamb over the years. That’s assuming he was willing to talk about them in his own grief.

Claire’s parents were killed in a car accident. The story is that they were burned behind recognition. This is where there are a lot of theories that the two were time travelers. Many fans believe that the fact that they had been burned beyond recognition was a way to put other bodies in the car so that Julia and Henry could travel through the a portal.

We know at least one has the time traveler gene in Outlander

Based on the fact that time travel is a genetic ability in the world of Outlander, we know that one of Claire’s parents has it. This could have been a dormant gene, but we know that one of them can travel through time since Claire can.

There are a few theories from fans. One is that Henry was the one with the time traveler gene. After all, he is a Beauchamp and there are a lot of theories that Claire’s line is connected to Fergus through his mother in the brothel and Comte St. Germain, who is a time traveler. This would have made Uncle Lamb a time traveler, or at least a carrier of the gene.

Of course, both of her parents could have been time travelers. Without Diana Gabaldon sharing anything about them, it’s something we’ll never get to find out about.

Well, that is until the prequel story.

There is clearly a lot to unpack when it comes to Claire’s parents. We know very little about them, which gives Outlander: Blood of My Blood  a lot of opportunities in the writing.
