We’re preparing ourselves for another heartbreaking episode of House of the Dragon. We know there’s a major battle in the episode, and it’s going to feel like it happens much faster than previous big moments in Season 2.

House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 4 will be the shortest episode of the series to date. That includes compared to Season 1, which saw most episodes hover around the 62-minute length.

The first season has seen episodes over an hour. While the first episode was just 64 minutes long, the two subsequent episodes were 72 and 70 minutes respectively. Well, it’s time to lose 10 minutes in the next episode.

House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 4 length

The episode will come in at 60 minutes, and that’s just based on HBO offering up an hour in the schedule. It’s possible that it could be a little shorter than that.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Unlike broadcast shows, premium cable and streaming shows get to change the lengths of episode each time. They don’t have to factor in ad breaks, which means they only need to be as long as is necessary for the storytelling. If that means 60 minutes is enough, then we’ll take it.

House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 4 will be a big episode. It’s the one that many have been waiting for—a chance to see dragons fight in the air again. And it’ll be easier to see this battle compared to the one at the end of the first season. Yes, this episode features the Battle of Rook’s Rest. If you’ve read Fire & Blood, you know what that means.

As long as the episode includes everything that it needs to, the length doesn’t really matter that much. However, I will admit that I’m worried. I wasn’t impressed with the way the murder of Prince Jaehaerys was handled, but I was happy with the way the Cargyll twin fight was handled. I’m worried that the Battle of Rook’s Rest won’t quite meet the expectations set based on the way the story is told in the book.
