Get ready for more dragons and more of the Targaryen civil war. House of the Dragon Season 3 is officially happening.

The renewal comes ahead of the Season 2 premiere of the series. That first episode drops on Sunday, June 16, and fans cannot wait. There are already some major moments from Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin that fans are getting ready for.

This renewal is something that just seems to be like the Peaky Blinders movie news. It feels like we already knew a third season was going to happen, but now we’re getting the official confirmation.

What to expect in House of the Dragon Season 3

As of right now, HBO hasn’t confirmed the episode count. The first season had 10 episodes, and the second season was supposed to follow suit. Instead, the second season has dropped to eight episodes. The reason for the reduced episode count was that it would allow for more storytelling due to reduced costs.

It’s possible that House of the Dragon Season 3 will also have eight episodes.

Where in the story will the third season pick up? We’ll need to wait until the second season finale to find that one out. There are a lot of theories on where the second season could wrap, and one of those is the Battle of Rook’s Rest, which will see Team Black take another major hit in the war. There is also a hit to Team Green in the process.

If you want to get ahead with the story, you’ll want to read Fire & Blood. Just keep in mind that this isn’t a traditional novel. Instead, it is based on three people’s accounts of the time period and combined into a single telling of the story. The TV series is filling in the blanks, as we learn that history is written by the victor.
