Has the Court of Thorns and Roses series been scrapped?
When we heard that Ronald D. Moore was working on another book adaptation, we were excited. While A Court of Thorns and Roses may not be for all Outlander fans, we just love to see Moore have success as a showrunner.
Then the news for the project went silent. It was supposedly still in development, but it was clear that a few things were getting in the way. The strike action this summer likely didn’t help any of it.
Well, now there are new reports that the series has been scrapped. That was followed up by it still being in development. What is going on?
A Court of Thorns and Roses is still reportedly in development
Variety shares that the original TVLine piece about the series being scrapped is wrong. The show is still in development, but there is a caveat to that. It is not in “active” development.
What does that mean? Well, there is no casting, no pre-production work, nothing else is going on. Some of the scripts have been written, but that’s about as far as things have gotten. And it looks like that’s it. The Hulu project is dead in the water.
That doesn’t mean we’ll never get an adaptation of A Court of Thorns and Roses. It’s just probably not going to be this one. Those who were helming the project are not shopping it around in its current state. That could mean someone else takes up the project or it’s transformed into something else for another streamer or network.
This will be disappointing but not unexpected news. After all, when a series goes so long without being talked about and without updates from anyone involved, you know it’s not a good sign.
