What to expect for Daemon in House of the Dragon Season 3 based on the book

House of the Dragon Season 3 is happening, but we have a long wait on our hands. That means time to see what the storylines for individual characters are like in the books. What could we expect to see for Daemon Targaryen?

Daemon Targaryen went on a rather trippy journey throughout House of the Dragon Season 2. It all ended with him bending the knee to his wife, making it clear that he was on her side to support her claim. What’s next for him as we get into House of the Dragon Season 3?

We have a long wait for the third season. It means looking at the book, Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin, to get a sense of storylines to come. Of course, the series hasn’t fully followed the book for various reasons, but with Daemon now backing Rhaenyra, it looks like things are getting back on track with him being Prince Consort.

As you would expect, there are spoilers from Fire & Blood in this post. We’re delving deeper into that story.

Daemon helps Rhaenyra sack King’s Landing in Fire & Blood

In the novel, Daemon leaves Harrenhal when he learns that Aemond and Criston are on their way. That’s not been the case in the series, but there is still time for it. In the book, Daemon joins Rhaenyra in the attack on King’s Landing to take over everything. It’s a debate over whether this will happen. Alicent has come to Rhaenyra to share that she will open the gates, allowing Rhaenyra to walk in, which could mean less for Daemon and Rhaenyra to do.

Daemon then joins forces with Nettles, who he keeps by his side as she is just 17 and one of the newer dragonseeds. Nettles may not be introduced in the series, and we could end up seeing Rhaena take that storyline, which actually could be exciting to see Daemon and his daughter fight together. It takes out the questions as to whether Daemon has an affair, as well. In the book, there are rumors that Daemon and Nettles have a love affair.

Daemon does hear that Rhaenyra views Nettles as a traitor and wants her dead. He decides to help Nettles get away. Instead of returning to King’s Landing, Daemon went to Harrenhal, where he faced Aemond in a fight.

Will Daemon die in House of the Dragon Season 3?

Daemon and Aemond fight on the back of their dragons, Caraxes and Vhagar. This leads to both of their deaths, and we’ve had both foreshadowed in House of the Dragon Season 2. We know that Aemond is set to die in the God’s Eye based on Helaena’s words. Daemon saw himself in the depths of water, and in the book, it says he falls into the sea and his body is never seen again.

Of course, this leads to theories that Daemon never died. Some theorize that he headed off to find Nettles and the two are able to live a quiet life. The show seems to suggest that isn’t going to happen and Daemon will actually die.

It’s just not clear if all of this will play out in the third season or if it’s something to play out in Season 4. Granted, Season 4 hasn’t been confirmed yet, and it will be the last if it happens. It could make sense to keep Daemon and Aemond around for the final season, but it would be a huge impact to get ready for the ending to the Dance of the Dragons to have all this play out in Season 3.
