We knew that Jenny Murray would be in Outlander Season 7. That was revealed back in 2023, with the news that Jenny had been recast.

Laura Donnelly is out. She didn’t come back for a Season 4 storyline that she should have been in, leading to the need to rewrite the story a little. However, Jenny is necessary in Outlander Season 7, so that meant recasting the character. Kristin Atherton will play the role, and we can’t wait to see how she does.

Now we need to know what’s in store for Jenny Murray. We can turn to An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Heart’s Blood for this, which does mean we’re heading into some book spoilers.

Jenny Murray will blame Claire Fraser for someone’s death in Outlander Season 7B

There is another death coming. If you’ve read An Echo in the Bone, you know who we mean. Sadly, Ian Murray won’t make it to the end of the series. He dies of consumption, which was the term used for TB back in the day.

There is nothing that Claire can do to help him at this point. She wants to, but she doesn’t have the medication. At this point in the illness, there’s likely little that she can do in anyway. It’s progressed too much.

Jenny doesn’t like that answer. She views this as Claire wanting to punish her for the past. She can’t see past the loss of her husband, and she just wants someone to blame. Claire allows her to do that, understanding what Jenny needs in this moment.

Jenny Murray heads to America in An Echo in the Bone

With the loss of Ian and Young Jamie now with a family of his own, Jenny realizes that there is nothing keeping her in Scotland. She decides to head to America with Jamie, and the two are scheduled to leave on one particular ship.

They miss the ship, but Jamie isn’t able to get word to Claire about this in time. Claire believes that Jamie and Jenny have died at sea. There’s a big storyline to come when Jenny and Jamie show up in Philadelphia.

This does allow for Claire and Jenny to come to terms with their losses over the years. Jenny forgives Claire, realizing that Claire couldn’t save Ian. Claire also forgives Jenny. By the end of Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, the two sisters-in-law are back in a good place.

Jenny also becomes a mother-in-law and grandmother again. She welcomes Rachel Hunter into the family, and she is there for Rachel and Ian when they welcome their son into the world.

Now you can see why Jenny needed to be recast for Outlander Season 7B.

What about Jenny in 1739 in the Outlander books?

Jenny Murray also shows up in another part of the story in Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. A younger Jenny is there when Roger heads to Lallybroch in 1739.

It’s hard to tell if this storyline will take place in Outlander Season 7B. We know Brian Fraser will be back, but will a young Jenny also be included? There is a way around this storyline with just Brian to help keep time and costs down. If we do see a young Jenny, she’ll give Roger the dog tags and tell him to speak to Black Jack Randall at Fort William about them, leading Roger on a journey to find his dad.
