PBS has some excellent period dramas for all interests. Call the Midwife is a must-watch, and fans have patiently waited for Season 13 to head to Netflix. To great news is that the wait is almost over.
Call the Midwife Season 13 will arrive on Netflix on Monday, Sept. 2. It’s the perfect way to spend your Labor Day while you let the kids run around outside!
It hasn’t been that long of a wait since the season aired on PBS. After the initial Christmas Day special, the eight episodes of the season aired from March 17 to May 5, 2024, on PBS. All nine of the episodes (yes, including the Christmas Day 2023 special) will head to Netflix at once.
What to expect in Call the Midwife Season 13
If you missed out on the season because you don’t have PBS, you’ll want to get a rough idea of what to expect. Don’t worry; we’re avoiding the major spoilers in this post.
The 13th season picked up with Sister Julienne and Shelagh joining the new midwifery training scheme. They join Rosalind and Joyce, leading to an introduction into the routines of home delivery.
There are some heartbreaking and joyful births throughout the season. One of the first involves a woman who is giving birth alone after her husband leaves her. She proves to be difficult, but wouldn’t you when your whole life crashes around you? We have to remember that we’re in the 1960s at this point. Being a single mom was frowned upon.
The season also includes a baby born with bilateral hip dysplasia. This is something checked for regularly now at hospitals, especially in the UK, but at the time, it was barely heard of. What will the team of midwives do?
Call the Midwife Season 13 joined the 12 seasons already on the streamer. Get ready for the Christmas Day 2024 special on PBS on Dec. 25, 2024.
