Bridgerton books in order: Where to start with the Bridgerton siblings
There are eight books for eight Bridgerton siblings. Of course, you want to read them in order. The question is what the right order is.
There are technically two ways to read the Bridgerton books. One of those is in sibling age order, but this won’t help you the first time around. There are so many elements to the story that cross over from book to book. Unlike books such as the Twisted series or the Neon Gods series, you need to read the books in release order.
Some of the other characters have storylines that connect. That’s especially the case for Penelope Featherington, who gets her love story in the fourth book but is a major player from the start.
This is the order to read the Bridgerton books in
Book 1: The Duke and I
This one follows Daphne Bridgerton, who comes of age and is presented to Society. It’s time for her to settle down. Of course, she isn’t all that interested in marriage at first. That is until she meets a certain duke. We also get to hear about Lady Whistledown, who writes a gossip column.
Book 2: The Viscount Who Loved Me
The second book in the series follows the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony. After spending years being the most elusive bachelor, Anthony decides it’s time to marry and he has a wife picked out. However, Kate Sheffield, the elder sister of the woman he would like to marry, gets in the way. Kate wants to protect her sister, only to end up falling for the man. And he starts to fall for her!
Book 3: An Offer from a Gentleman
This book follows Benedict, the second sibling in the family. Fans expected to see this book adapted for the third season, but the Netflix series has skipped over this for now. Sophie Beckett sneaks into Lady Bridgerton’s famed masquerade ball and starts spinning the dancefloor in the arms of her “Prince Charming.” Since then, Benedict has only thought of her, and now he swears to find his mystery woman.
Book 4: Romancing Mr. Bridgerton
Book 4 was adapted into Season 3. We follow Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton’s love story. This is when secrets come out in the books. We find out who Lady Whistledown really is, but could this lead to problems in the love department for the two?
Book 5: To Sir Phillip, With Love
We get to where the book number matches the sibling number. Book 5 is all about Bridgerton sibling No. 5: Eloise. Eloise finds out that she needs to marry a man she has never met, but she just can’t do that. She just had to hope that he would be the perfect husband. Sadly, he isn’t. That is until she realizes that maybe he is perfect for her.
Book 6: When He Was Wicked
We continue the book number matching the sibling number, as we follow Francesca in When He Was Wicked. The sixth Bridgerton book starts with Francesca and John and it ends with Francesca and Michael. Say what! Michael meets Francesca on the eve of her wedding to his cousin John. John and Francesca do marry, but after John’s death two years later, the big love story can begin.
Book 7: It’s in His Kiss
We’re back out of order, following the last of the siblings in It’s in His Kiss. Hyacinth is older now, and she meets Gareth St. Clair. His father detests him and is determined to ruin Gareth’s inheritance. His only hope is a diary that is all in Italian. Fortunately, Hyacinth can translate it, and so, she goes to work while also falling for this charming man.
Book 8: On the Way to a Wedding
The final book in the series follows Gregory’s story. Gregory believes in true love, and he is determined to find it for himself. When he does, he is disappointed to learn that Miss Hermione Watson is in love with someone else. Hermione’s best friend, Lady Lucinda Abernathy, promises to help Hermoine see the good in Gregory, only to end up falling in love with Gregory instead. Of course, Gregory falls for her, and he’ll need to act fast if he wants to save Lucy from a marriage she doesn’t want.
