Blood and Cheese were given a task in the House of the Dragon Season 2 premiere. Did they manage to complete it, or did they choose the wrong child?
Caution: We’re jumping into major spoilers for the end of House of the Dragon Season 2’s premiere.
Daemon Targaryen sent Blood and Cheese into the Red Keep with one task. They were to bring Aemond’s head. That was the one thing Rhaenyra wanted after confirming the death of her son, Lucerys.
The two hitmen couldn’t find Aemond, though. To be honest, the idea of the two taking down Aemond was a little laughable. There wasn’t a chance that they would complete it, so going after someone else made more sense.
They went after Aegon’s heir to the throne, Jaehaerys. The problem is they couldn’t tell Aegon and Helaena’s twins apart.
Which twin did Blood and Cheese kill in House of the Dragon?
House of the Dragon made some major changes to the storyline in the book. It is far more traumatic in the book, with Maelor being held over a window, and the two thugs threatening to rape Jaehaerya.
The show hasn’t introduced Maelor, which meant that the storyline had to change a little. Blood walked over to the two beds and noted that the twins look the same. He wanted Helaena to tell him which one was the boy. “A son for a son,” after all.
Helaena eventually points to one of them, and Blood decides that it has to be the other. Why would Helaena give up the heir to the throne so easily? Cheese decides that Helaena is telling the truth, so Blood goes over to that child and kills him (or her?).
Was it the right child, though? Did Helaena manage to trick them into killing her daughter instead of her son? Either way, that Sophie’s Choice moment was awful for her.
It does look like she picked Jaehaerys. She runs to Alicent’s room with Jaehaerya and says “they killed the boy.” Why would she do that around Alicent if it was actually her daughter? She would tell her mother the truth. Criston was in the room with them, so maybe she decided to say “the boy” because she doesn’t know whether to trust him or not, but that doesn’t seem like something Helaena would think of.
All we know right now is that this isn’t something Rhaenyra wanted. She likely wouldn’t want the death of such a young child. She wanted Aemond’s head, and now the Dance of the Dragons has officially started.
House of the Dragon airs Sundays on HBO and Max.
