When Ah Sahm first came to America in the Warrior series premiere, it was to find his sister and get her back. However, he ended up in a rival tong and it was clear Mai Ling was not interested in being “saved” by her brother.
Mai Ling was not going back to nothing. However, she never really had a lot of power and control in Chinatown. Season 3 proved that, ending with her almost dying after the Long Zii opted to follow Li Young instead of her. It was a brutal betrayal that is sure to have some ramifications should Warrior be renewed for a fourth season.
On top of all that, Ah Sahm has lost his place within the Hop Wei. Young Jun had faced too much in a short space of time. When he learned too many of Ah Sahm’s secrets, a fight broke out. This was such a long-time coming and so wonderfully choreographed, but I think it was clear that none of the main characters were ever really going to die.
What’s next for Ah Sahm and Mai Ling in Warrior?
Should Netflix do the right thing and save this brilliant show, we have to look at what could be next for Ah Sahm and Mai Ling. They have both lost their chosen family with their tongs. Li Young chose the tong over Mai Ling, and Young Jun feels the weight of Ah Sahm’s betrayal.
Being in Chinatown when so many are out for their blood is going to be impossible. But they are only welcome in Chinatown if they stay in San Francisco.
Chao managed to get Yan Mi out after Ah Sahm failed to turn up on time, but he then paid for it with potentially his own life. We’ll have to see how that plays out.
Is it possible that Ah Sahm and Mai Ling will head to the train station to get to some sort of freedom? That could lead to them finding Chao, who can tell them that Zing is back. With that, Ah Sahm and Mai Ling could find a way to gain trust or at least a rough alliance with one of the tongs to protect everyone from Zing’s need for revenge.
Warrior is available to stream on Netflix and Max.
