Dinner brings up the task at hand in A Plague of Zombies Section 3. It turns out Lord John Grey is not there alone.
John wants to get right to business at dinner. While it’s clear that he is loyal to his work, he wants to get back home, it would seem. After all, being in Jamaica means that he can’t see Jamie Fraser. So, it’s not surprising to find out that he wants to deal with the situation as soon as possible.
Breaking down A Plague of Zombies Section 3
Dinner starts with the governor arriving calm and composed. This is very different to the one who ran from the room, but it’s exactly as Dawes predicted. This all must happen often, then.
John and Warren are joined by Major Gettes and Captain Cherry, John’s adjutant. They were on a ship for weeks, so the dinner is definitely welcome. However, they don’t spend the dinner with idle chit-chat. John wants to get to business.
John would like to speak to Captain Creswell and his predecessors. Fetters and Cherry join in with the discussion as they all talk about the maroons and the situation on the island. John is suspicious of this situation, and he wants to get to the bottom of the cause for the rebellion.
It could be linked to the sentencing of two maroons. A judge sentenced them to whipping and prison, but they escaped prisoner. Cherry will go to interview the judge who did the sentencing.
Now John finds out what happened to Creswell. He rode out to investigate the situation of the escaped prisoners but has not returned from that. The governor needs John and his group to get to the bottom of the situation, and Creswell is the reason for that.
Could this chapter be used in a TV show adaptation?
There is no doubt that this chapter would need to be used if A Plague of Zombies was ever adapted into a TV series. This picks up the main part of the story, bringing us the introduction of two other players and sharing more about the reason John is there. We need to see this sort of thing play out.
There’s no way around using the chapter if there was a Lord John Grey series. There’s too much information that is connected to the overall story.
