General George Washington made an appearance in Outlander season 7, episode 12. Of course, we have met him in the series before, but this George Washington had a different face.
Jamie and George shared a reminder of where they had met before. When George recognized Jamie, he immediately asked if they’d met. It didn’t take long to bond over the “god-awful play” at the Wilmington Theater. It was just what they needed to further break the ice, as George had an important request of Jamie.
Well, it turns out that there was a change of face. While the show has been able to get some familiar faces back, that wasn’t the case for the man who played George Washington.
Simon Harrison played George Washington in Outlander season 4
We met George Washington in Outlander season 4, episode 8. It was only briefly, and it was when Jamie and Claire went to the theater. This was that moment Claire did surgery in front of everyone, and it was a distraction for Jamie at the same time as actually helping a man.
Simon Harrison played George Washington in that episode. It is possible that schedules clashed, which is why the show couldn’t get him back for the second appearance. After all, Harrison has been in the likes of His Dark Materials and Until I Kill You since.
Gary Fannin took on the role in Outlander season 7
The most recent episode saw Gary Fannin take on the role of General George Washington. He is a London based American actor, which made it possible for him to come into the series—there are all sorts of rules around the unions! It does mean that the American accent heard in the series was not put on.
Will we see George again? That’s debatable. We are now into an important part of the Revolutionary War. George Washington didn’t just sit back and let everyone do the job themselves. Something that I would love to see is Washington giving Jamie the blue coat to wear. After all, we know that Jamie eventually gets one.
Outlander airs on Fridays on STARZ.
