When we got to the end of Lord John: A Plague of Zombies, I shared that we would take a short break from the Outlander Book Club. This was purely due to Outlander season 7 airing. Well, now that the season is coming to an end, it’s time to start reading again. We’ll start Besieged by Diana Gabaldon soon.
I like to take a week to do all the fallout coverage of the finale. There will be a lot to break down, especially as we go into this last Droughtlander, and there are still shows to watch on STARZ after this. The Couple Next Door stars.
So, with this in mind, it’s best to hold off from Besieged just a little bit longer. We won’t be starting as soon as Outlander season 7 finishes.
Besieged readthrough start date
I’m setting the start date as Monday, Jan. 27. This gives us a week to get through the finale storylines, and get into the new Sam Heughan series on STARZ.
As before, we’ll stick to weekdays only for the chapter breakdowns. This has worked out better than going through the books every single day of the week. Don’t we all need a bit of time to catch up at the weekends?
There are 25 parts to the novel, including the ending. So, this will get us through a tiny bit of Droughtlander. At least we have Outlander: Blood of My Blood to look forward to at some point this year.
What is Besieged by Diana Gabaldon about?
The novella takes place after the events of A Plague of Zombies. Lord John Grey is still in Jamaica in 1762, but he is ready to return to England. That is halted when he finds out that he needs to head to Havana, where the British Navy is getting ready to lay siege.
The Dowager Duchess of Pardloe, John’s mom, Benedicta, is a guest of Governor Juan de Prado, but she ends up becoming his hostage. John needs to get to her, his cousin Olivia, and others before it’s too late.
This is the last of the Lord John Grey novellas so far. Diana Gabaldon has said that she is not done with Lord John Grey’s story, but there has been no major work on the next story yet. We are catching up to the point where we meet John in Jamaica again in Voyager, so there won’t be much more to tell.
We’ll start Besieged on Monday, Jan. 27.
