As we get much closer to the beginning of the end of The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime Video, you’ll likely want to check out the book series. There are three books by Jenny Han in the series, and the TV show has followed each of them relatively well so far.
Of course, you need to know the order of the books you’re reading. If you jump into a later book, you’ll end up getting yourself confused by some of the characters and their actions. Even after watching the first two seasons of the Prime Video show, you’ll still want to read The Summer I Turned Pretty books in the right order.

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
The first book in the series is the one with the title of the TV series. The story takes place while Belly, Jeremiah, and Conrad are still in high school. It’s summer in Cousins Beach, and it kick starts the love triangle between Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah. Of course, at the start, it doesn’t seem like there is going to be a love triangle there, but that’s the way it develops throughout the first book.
Conrad is moody and hiding something from everyone. We later find out that he knows about his mom’s cancer diagnosis, and because she has been keeping it from everyone, now he is, but he’s not happy about her decisions involving the cancer.

It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han
After that, you’ll want to jump into the 2010 release, It’s Not Summer Without You. This picks up the summer after Susannah’s death, and we find out that Conrad and Belly have broken up. Belly isn’t looking forward to the summer, but she soon finds herself thrown into a search for Conrad.
Jeremiah calls Belly to tell her that Conrad has gone missing. The two need to go on a journey together to find him, which is when Belly starts to really see Jeremiah in a new light. Suddenly, she realizes how much she has put on hold for a boy, and she needs to change all of that.

We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han
The final novel, released in 2011, is We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han, and it picks up while Belly and Jeremiah are at college. They are dating, and they seem to be happy with each other. All that changes one night, but they try to push through the problems and agree to get married.
Well, that’s great until Conrad shows up again. Of course, that brings up old feelings, and now Belly has to choose between the two brothers once more. Who will end up with her heart?
