You will not want to miss out on the series finale of Miss Austen. The final episodees of the series will air on Sunday, May 18.
Yes, episodes. Plural. There are two episodes left in the series, and they will both air back-to-back. That's because Marie Antoinette season 2 ended last week, creating a gap in the 10 p.m. block.
What to expect in the Miss Austen series finale
At the end of the previous episode, Cassandra collapsed from a fever. It's clear that she's likely picked up diphtheria, which was going around the village that she visited to talk with one of Isabella's sisters. However, it happened while she was reading Jane's letters to Eliza, and that led to Cassandra hurridly putting the letters into a drawer, without closing the drawer fully.
All Cassandra wants to do is to protect Jane's letters from her sister-in-law, Mary. One thing Mary likely intends to do is to publish all of Jane's private thoughts to the public world. However, at least with the letters out, everyone will find out that Mary lied.
In the first hour of the night, Cassandra will need to figure out how to protect the letters while fighting the fever. The second hour will bring Cassandra's story to a close. We know that in real life she burned the letters, and it looks like this was the ifnal step to protect her sister's legacy.

Will there be more to the Miss Austen story?
In some bad news, there won't be more to this story. It has been billed as a limited series, which means it's a one-and-done. It does make sense considering the focus of the series being on Cassandra and the letters, but I'm sure there will be stories of other characters left open that we'll want to explore.
There has been no talk of continuing the stories on just yet, but don't rule that out. We've seen limited series turn into anthologies or gain second seasons. There's also a chance we'll get a sequel series that focuses on Isabella and her life after Cassandra.
Miss Austen is available to stream on PBS Masterpiece.
