If you’re a fan of rom-coms and you love dogs as main characters in movies, then you’ll want to get ready for Amazon’s upcoming release. Merv has already captured our hearts from the trailer alone.
Sure, the trailer pretty much tells us everything that is going to happen throughout the movie, but it’s a rom-com, so that’s absolutely fine. We’re watching for the dog, anyway.
What is Merv about?
The new Amazon Original movie follows Anna and Russ, played by Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox, respectively. After they break up, they enter into one of the most awkward co-parenting arrangements ever. No, this isn’t over a child, but over a dog, Merv!
However, their beloved dog loses his spark because of the breakup. Dogs are sensitive to these types of things, and he doesn’t handle the back and forth all that well. In fact, this is why they say not to do co-pawrenting, because it’s much harder on the dog in most cases. The only reason it worked for me is because the dogs were attached to the children going back and forth, so they wanted to go back and forth as well.
Back to the movie, though! As Anna and Russ try to find a way to help Merv, Russ decides to take him on a beach vacation. Of course, Anna shows up, making it clear that Merv is happiest when they are together.
We’re sure we can see where the movie is going from there. There’s a point in the trailer when Anna shares that she thinks she still has feelings for Russ, and how can you not have feelings for Daredevil?
When is Merv on Prime Video?
This is an Amazon Original movie, and this means some great news. It will head to Prime Video, and that’s where it will stream afterward. Amazon hasn’t been like other streamers in removing original content, so we’re not worried about that happening.
Merv drops on Wednesday, Dec. 10 on Prime Video. It’s usually at around 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.
There is no doubt that this movie looks adorable. Now we’re just hoping that it doesn’t turn out to be like Marley & Me and deliver a heartbreaking ending for Merv. There’s always that fear, and we’ll be sure to warn you if we find out it happens!
Merv is coming to Prime Video on Wednesday, Dec. 10.
