Netflix is riding high on the wave of popularity that is KPop Demon Hunters. Some are even calling the animated film Netlix's Frozen. Fans are eager for more, and until a sequel is released, they must find their fix elsewhere. This is where K-dramas come in.
K-dramas have been available to watch on Netflix for years now, and while many people think of shows like Squid Game, there are a lot more romances that have gone under the radar. That is, until KPop Demon Hunters set the streaming world on fire.
Now, Netflix is promoting its K-dramas to bank on the Korean craze happening at the moment. But one K-drama in particular is being promoted, even within the KPop Demon Hunters film. Netflix's 2022 original series, Business Proposal, is gaining new interest because of its connections to KPop Demon Hunters.
What is Business Proposal on Netflix about?
Business Proposal is a romantic comedy based on the Korean webcomic and novel, A Business Proposal. It follows the story of Shin Ha-ri, who drives off the blind dates of her friend by impersonating said friend, and Kang Tae-moo, who decides to propose to his next blind date simply to stop having to go on them.
Oh, and it turns out that Tae-moo just happens to be the CEO of the company Ha-ri works at. Hilarity and romance ensue as Tae-moo works to win Ha-ri over even after finding out her true identity.
I can hear you thinking, "That's nice, but what does it have to do with KPop Demon Hunters?" Well, the voice actor of Jinu in KPop Demon Hunters is Ahn Hyo-seop, who plays Tae-moo in Business Proposal. And as an Easter Egg, the music playing when Rumi and Jinu first meet is the same song that plays in Business Proposal. "Love, Maybe" by MeloMance is the outro song for each episode in Business Proposal. It was allegedly used as a placeholder during the KPop Demon Hunters scene, but it fit so well that they kept it.
Connections between Business Proposal and KPop Demon Hunters
Netflix definitely knew what they were doing with their connections to Business Proposal hidden in KPop Demon Hunters. All the Jinu stans are now rushing to see Ahn Hyo-seop in his other works, which just happen to include one of Netflix's original series. This goes beyond being a mere coincidence.
Even so, I'm not mad about it. I loved the show when I watched it in 2022, and I love it now during my rewatch. I will admit to imitating that Leo DiCaprio meme of him pointing and squinting when I recognized the "Love, Maybe" song. And my crush on Ahn Hyo-seop has come back with a vengeance after hearing him as Jinu.
So, if you're looking for something to watch with a similar feel to KPop Demon Hunters, Netflix made sure that Business Proposal would meet that criteria. It's silly and swoony, and you'll be rooting for Ha-ri and Tae-moo as much as you did for Rumi and Jinu. Plus, it's a guaranteed happy ending! And after that, make sure to try some of the other K-dramas for all the KPop romance you need until a sequel comes out.
