Yes, Jamie Fraser is in Virgins by Diana Gabaldon (and he's not the only fan-favorite)

As we get into a new short story as part of our Outlander Book Club, there are questions about whether characters we’ve come to know and love are in the stories. One of the most important characters is Jamie Fraser, and everyone will be happy to hear that he’s in Virgins by Diana Gabaldon.

Virgins is the next book in our club, and we’ll be starting tomorrow, Monday, June 9 with the read-through. It takes us back to 1740, and Jamie isn’t the only character we’ll get to see again.

We meet a teenage Jamie Fraser in Virgins

It’s important to note that we won’t get to meet a Jamie we’ve seen before. The first Outlander book introduced us to a Jamie in his early 20s, but he had already been through dangerous situations and a life that no teenager should have to deal with. Virgins by Diana Gabaldon gives us a look at some of that life, picking up off the back of Jamie getting out of Fort William.

The wounds on his back are still fresh, and he’s currently blaming himself for his father’s death. This is a guilt he holds onto for years to come, but it’s raw in this book, and that means a young and inexperienced Jamie doesn’t quite know how to deal with the anger that he feels.

We’ve always been told that Jamie is a violent man; that’s what he tells Claire, but people don’t want to accept that. However, Virgins certainly shows us that violence.

We’ll also meet a younger Ian Murray and Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser

Jamie is not the only fan-favorite character who will appear in this short story. The beginning includes Murtagh, who sends Jamie to France as a way to deal with the trauma and pain of what he’s been through. Ian Murray, Jamie’s best friend and Jenny’s future husband, is already in France, so it makes sense for Jamie to head there.

The two boys become men in this short story. They learn more about weapons and killing, and they may also become men in the bedroom. It all depends on how the tables turn for them. However, they have a dangerous situation to deal with as mercenaries, and many of them involve the Jewish peoples.

We’ll start Virgins by Diana Gabaldon on Monday, June 9.
