Claire was shocked to hear Frances since a song from the future in the Outlander season 7 finale. There is no way that Frances should know “Oh, I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside.” It was even more shocking to learn that her mother taught her it.
Finding out that Frances and Jane’s mother was called Faith already unsettled Claire. With the reveal of the song, we were reminded that Claire sang this to her stillborn daughter while in Paris. Is it possible that Faith survived?
That’s something Claire now believes. With Master Raymund showing up asking for forgiveness, it certainly seems possible. And this is a fantasy series! The question is how Faith could have survived.
Master Raymond may have put life into baby Faith
While Claire held her stillborn daughter, she didn’t get to see Faith placed in the ground. Mother Hildegarde broke the rules by allowing Faith to be buried. She wasn’t alive to be baptized, so it was against French law. There is no way that Mother Hildegarde would have lied to Claire, so this means something had to have happened at another point.
Is it possible that the baby Mother Hildegarde buried wasn’t Faith. She may not have known this, either, so she didn’t lie. There’s a chance that Master Raymond took the real Faith and placed life into her. He had the blue healing glow, and he was able to save Claire from death through that magic. Maybe he could have put life into a stillborn baby as well.
The theory is that all time travelers are descendants of Master Raymond. He took special interest in Claire, almost as if he could tell that she was one of his descendants, and that could have led to his need to save her daughter. Why wouldn’t he reunite mother and daughter after that? Well, there was a lot more going on and Master Raymond came to ask for forgiveness, which suggests that he knew he was in the wrong.
I don’t think we need to know the why. Maybe we’ll never get those answers. It just certainly seems like Claire believes that her daughter survived, and that Frances is her and Jamie’s granddaughter.
