Deck the halls with boughs of holly, Downton Abbey fans, as Netflix U.S. has just released some fantastic news regarding the beloved world of the Crawleys and co. For this upcoming winter season, two Downton Abbey films will begin streaming on the platform.
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, the official Netflix US X account (formerly Twitter) released its streaming schedule for the upcoming December. From holiday films to other successful and long-awaited Netflix content, two mentions in particular made Downtonians extremely excited.

Downton Abbey quick summary (without spoilers)
Back in 2010, the world was riveted by the historical drama series created by British writer Julian Fellowes. The series begins in 1912, just after the Titanic sank, on which the future Downton heir was aboard. After the terrible news, the Earl of Grantham, Robert Crawley and his family must face the fact that a new heir might come to claim their beloved and ancestral home.
Alongside the Crawley family, which is filled with illustrious characters, there are also the people who help them and make their residence a gem in the English countryside: the downstairs staff. Packed with an iron-willed head butler, a no-nonsense yet kind housekeeper, a lively cook, and the rest of the staff, Downton Abbey broke every paradigm as it told intertwined stories set against historical events, including World War I, the Spanish Influenza pandemic, and more.
With 52 episodes, six seasons, five Christmas specials, three films, and endless laughs and tears, Downton Abbey has remained one of the best British and overall TV series, with millions of fans across the globe. The series also earned its writers and stars multiple accolades and worldwide recognition.

The good news from Netflix
As previously mentioned, Netflix released its December schedule, and Downtonians rejoiced to realise two out of three of the Downton films are coming to the streaming platform. According to their tweet, Downton Abbey (2019) and Downton Abbey: A New Era (2022) will be on Netflix on Dec. 1 and Dec. 24, respectively.
Both films were released to critical and commercial success despite pandemic restrictions at the time when the second film came out. The films follow the storylines of the original series set in the late 1920s, bringing chaos, fun, and several surprises to our favourite characters. If you are a Downtonian, or even a casual fan, who hasn't seen them for whatever reason, then you're definitely in for a treat.
According to its schedule, Netflix will also stream films such as Troll 2, My Secret Santa, Little Women (1994), and more. Plus, it's also going to be a busy month for anyone out there who is expecting the release of the final season of Stranger Things, which will be split into three parts: the first's release will be on Wednesday, Nov. 26, the second on Christmas Day, and the epic finale on New Year's Eve.

The bad news from Netflix
However, while Downtonians will soon enjoy the first two films on the platform, the original six-season series will be soon removed. But don't fret too much, as other streaming platforms such as Amazon Prime and Peacock will continue to provide subscribers with access to their dearest series.
So, don't wait too long and begin your annual rewatch of Downton Abbey now!
