When it comes to the world of Game of Thrones, we tend to worry about various characters. In fact, even the lead characters can end up being killed off. It’s natural, then, to worry about Dunk on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
During A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 episode 5, Dunk will enter a Trial by Combat. This is slightly different to the ones we’ve seen on Game of Thrones, with a Trial of Seven. Six other knights will fight alongside him, while six knights will fight alongside Prince Aerion.
However, with a Trial by Combat, we do naturally worry about our favorite characters. Game of Thrones ruined us when it came to Oberyn Martell. However, the good news about Dunk is we know that he can’t die.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is Dunk’s story
One of the benefits of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the way the story is told. It’s only told from Dunk’s POV. While there are the odd scenes that we see, such as when Egg went to practice being a squire, the story is Dunk’s to tell. With that in mind, there is no way that the series can kill him off.
Just look at the title of the series. It’s titled about this knight who will grow in skill and notoriety. If the series killed him off in the penultimate episode of the first season, it would completely defeat the whole series!
Plus, there is a second season coming. So, we know that there is more to Dunk’s story.
Game of Thrones tells us there is more to tell
In fact, we can look at Game of Thrones to know that Dunk can’t die in this Trial by Seven. When Joffrey looked through the book of the former knights, he comes across Ser Duncan the Tall. There are four pages of Ser Duncan the Tall’s story, and that makes it clear that he has many adventures.
The Trial of Seven isn’t likely to come up in that book, and if it does, it will be at the very start of it. Dunk has only just started to make a name for himself as a knight, so he’s not done enough to get four pages in the book.
This doesn’t mean that everyone will survive the Trial by Combat. There are new knights fighting for Dunk — such as Raymun — and there is the Kingsguard fighting for Aerion, who will have skills that are hard to beat. The question is will Aerion die if Dunk can’t, or will there be another way to end this Trial by Combat?
