When we first met Captain Richardson, he seemed to be one of those characters who would end up being a minor pain. However, he’s become a threat to the Grey family, and anyone who stands with them. Surely that means we’ll see him turn up again.
Captain Richardson is still around in Outlander
Let’s just point out the fact that nothing happened to Captain Richardson a the end of Outlander season 7. He wasn’t killed, and nobody mentioned if he was still part of the British Army or now officially with the Rebels at the end of Outlander season 7. It’s likely that he’s switched sides now. Lord John Grey got William back, and the two of them would be able to share the news that Captain Richardson sent William into a trap. Even with Richardson as a captain, there would be questions about what he did. It would be better for him to head to the Americans now, considering he says he is a Rebel.
What happens to Captain Richardson in the Outlander books?
Richardson is still a threat if the books are anything to judge. In the novels, Richardson continues to work against the Grey family. He wants to prevent Hal from making an impassioned speech, but it’s not for the reasons you would think. He is actually on the British side, but he needs to play the long game to see the British win.
To convince Hal not to make a speech that will end up leading to the Americans winning, Richardson captures Lord John Grey. It does look like this is going to play out in Outlander season 8 based on a scruffy beard we have seen Lord John Grey having in the leaked photos. Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone left us with a cliffhanger about Captain Richardson and Lord John Grey, with William turning to Jamie for help again.
With the series already setting up that Richardson is after the Grey family, it looks like we can expect him to return in Outlander season 8. Get ready for him to be the main villain of the story.
