We see two moms with very different lives once again in Call the Midwife season 14, episode 7. At the same time, the personal lives of the nurses and nuns of Nonnatus House take a few turns. It’s time to find out more about adoptions, family problems, and the dating life.

Nurse Crane isn’t going to let a mom ruin her son’s life in Call the Midwife

One of the storylines involves a woman who is bedbound due to ill health. Well, as Nurse Crane goes to call in, she realizes that this mom isn’t all that bedbound at all. She’s able to get up and down the stairs, and she’s simply trying to avoid her son from moving out of the house. However, Nurse Crane wants to make sure Mark can head out and enjoy his life, which involves joining the Army.

It takes some time, but Nurse Crane is able to catch the mom in the act. Faking a fall down the stairs, Nurse Crane is quick to point out that the cup of tea didn’t spill. So, she decides that it’s time to tell Mark everything that’s been going on, and he knows that it’s time to tell her that he knows. He wants to be able to get out of his suffocating job and see the world, but his mom is quick to turn the tables on herself.

She doesn’t want her boy to leave, wanting him to stay at home forever in the way she did with her mom. That’s not the way it works, though.

Nurse Turner realizes a mom is using drugs again

Meanwhile, Nurse Turner realizes that an expectant mom, Jackie, may be using drugs again. Sure enough, Nurse Turner and Sister Catherine find out that she is using heroin again, and that leads to a conversation about it and how she may have harmed her unborn child.

Fortunately, the child is able to pull through, but Jackie continues to use drugs. She even wants her husband to take the drugs with her, despite her husband being clean and going through Dr. Turner’s methadone clinic.

There’s a heartbreaking ending for this couple, and for Cyril and Sister Veronica as they perform a house call. The couple has overdosed on heroin, leaving their two children with nobody.

Personal lives take a turn in Call the Midwife season 14, episode 7

The event happening in Poplar is a movie premiere, with Princess Anne attending. Of course, everyone is trying to get tickets to this event, and Cyril has two. He wants to take Rosalind, who is more than happy to go with him on a date. Of course, Joyce is not too happy about this, making it clear that she stands by what she originally believed.

The medical board is on her mind. If she loses at this, then she will lose everything about her life in England. Fortunately, the board finds in favor of Joyce, taking note of all the comments about racial prejudice.

Meanwhile, Sister Catherine is struggling to deal with the way her family has cut her off. Jackie had mentioned how her parents cut her off when she chose her husband, and Sister Catherine thinks about how her family isn’t by her side. Sister Monica Joan opens about how her family never supported her, but this doesn’t mean Sister Catherine’s family will never come to terms with it. In fact, Sister Catherine gets a letter at the end from one of her sisters, who will be at her first vow ceremony.

The Turners also get some good news during the episode. Their adoption goes through, so they have a new daughter to raise.

The entire episode focused on families and acceptance. We got a look at how cutting children off can have positive and negative effects, while also some great news for Joyce. Will Joyce now support Rosalind and Cyril, or will she continue to point out the prejudice that Rosalind will need to face due to her choice in man?
