Claire had no choice but to marry Lord John Grey in Outlander season 7, episode 11. Let’s take a look back at the episode, picking out the top moments from the episode.

A lot happened throughout Outlander season 7, episode 11. We got to see Brianna in 1980 deal with Roger being away, and we headed back to 1739 to see how Roger and Buck were dealing with the search for Jerry MacKenzie.

Of course, Outlander season 7, episode 11 brought us some major moments for Claire, Lord John Grey, Young Ian, and William in the 1770s. There’s no doubt that there were some exciting book moments playing out, whether you like the overall storyline or not.

We’re breaking down the episode with the top five moments from the episode.

Young Ian telling Rachel about Emily

As Young Ian said goodbye to Jamie, Rachel was by his side. We got a moment for the two of them to talk about their future, bringing in plenty of humor as Rachel continued to point out that Young Ian doesn’t say a lot to Rachel in English.

Something important to come up was the fact that Young Ian had been married before. This opened the conversation of Emily, Young Ian’s son, and life with the Mohawk. He made it clear that he’s choosing Rachel now, but he had to be completely open about his past. I love this.

More fiction needs to do this. Just have everyone lay out their pasts instead of hiding something important. After all, the truth always ends up coming out!

Young Ian asking Claire about going to the future

Young Ian is losing a lot of people in a short period of time. He’s lost his dad, and now he’s lost Jamie, who was like a father to him. As much as Claire is mourning, Young Ian turns to her for support and kind words. This opens the conversation about why Claire is still even in the past.

I love that it’s Young Ian who asks about this. Claire could head to her own time. She believes that Bree and Roger are in their own time with their children. Why wouldn’t Claire choose to be with them now? It’s not the reason why that stands out. It’s the fact that Young Ian is showing that he needs his Auntie Claire, but he isn’t going to force her to stick around for his sake. He is happy to see that she thinks of the past as her time, though.

Claire and Lord John Grey’s discussion the morning after

Am I a fan of this overall storyline in Outlander season 7, episode 11? Certainly not. However, I will say that the discussion the morning after saves it in a way. We get to see that Claire does care about Lord John Grey. She is interested in his life. This isn’t a conversation for the sake of it; she wants to know a little about the man who is becoming her husband.

There’s a lot of this throughout the episode. I think without this conversation, the rest of the discussions wouldn’t fully work out. We get to see how the two could have made a life work if they needed to, and it comes from mutual respect and interest.

Captain Richardson telling Claire about who he is

Captain Richardson is not a man to trust. That’s been clear from the start, but it comes up even more in Outlander season 7, episode 11. I do love the way the show has brought more doubt onto who he is and what he wants. He tells Claire that he’s a Rebel, but is he really? What does he actually want?

I love this moment for dropping a few seeds of doubt. It’s a great way to build on Richardson’s character, while also making it clear that he is going to be a thorn in Claire’s side. He has manipulated a lot, and he will continue to do so. I do love a smart villain.

William learning the truth in Outlander season 7, episode 11

Finally, we have Jamie’s return, which opens a huge can of worms. William learns that Jamie is his biological father, and it pulls a lot into question. Having that connection back to a young Willie and the “stinking papist” line was beautifully done.

What I love about this scene is the way Jamie’s expressions change. At first, he’s almost thankful that the secret is out. He gets the chance to make a bit of a joke to ease off the tension of the situation, and there’s hope that William will accept him. However, things change quickly as William lashes out in anger and throws his rosary back at Jamie.

Of course, nothing can be dealt with in the heat of the moment. The Redcoats turn up, and there’s more to happen before Jamie and William can properly talk. That’s if William even wants to listen.
