5 best moments from Outlander season 7, episode 10

Outlander season 7, episode 10 brought us some heartbreaking moments. It also brought us some big ones to push the story forward. Here are my favorite five moments from "Brotherly Love."

There were certainly some fun moments in the midst of the heartbreak in Outlander season 7, episode 10. Some of these moments brought closure to some stories, while others pushed the main storyline forward.

It’s important to note that while these are “best” moments, it doesn’t mean that they’re happy ones. It’s all about the importance of the scenes, the connections to the past, and the way they can fit into the big picture. Of course, there are some quieter moments that are sure to make the list.

I also try to avoid anything that I’d already covered in individual character moments. That’s not always possible, especially if it’s due to involving other characters in the story.

The flashback of Jamie and Ian

We know that Jamie and Ian grew up together. They have always been like brothers, and we get to see that in Outlander season 7, episode 10. Ian’s father held his oath to his laird close to him, and he made sure to honor that by teaching Jamie and Ian to fight. More importantly, he taught Ian about protecting his laird. I loved seeing how long the two had been connected, as it makes much more sense when it comes to the talk of being brothers in Jamie and Ian’s present day.

In the series, there was the focus on protecting Jamie on his left, his weaker side. This is a slight change from the book as Jamie is left-handed in the book series, but Sam Heughan is right-handed, so that needed to change. The line of “on your right” was switched to “on your left” as Ian died.

Jenny and Jamie getting a chance to talk

Jamie takes it upon himself to dig Ian’s grave. Jenny wants him to get Michael and Young Jamie to help, but Jamie won’t. This is something he needs to do, almost like a penance for not being around for Ian all this time—and maybe feeling some guilt for why Ian ended up so sick.

This allows the siblings to talk, though. It allows us that closure, as it looks like Jenny won’t be in America after all—despite her going there in the books. We need these moments to show us the connections between the characters, and I appreciate that we get that here.

William protecting Rachel Hunter

Rachel has two admirers: Young Ian and William. We know that she has chosen Young Ian, but William still has feelings for her. During the episode, he went back to tell her that, and it was just at the right time. A fight had broken out in the stables.

However, it’s a bit before that that I love the most. William waits for Rachel at the market while she gathers items that she needs. He makes a joke about her taking long enough to grow a beard, showing us the way their friendship has blossomed over the months that Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian have been away. We see how much William cares for Rachel, and we get that hint that William is going to be the one to kill Arch Bug protecting her.

Denny being eager to do the surgery

Oh, Denny is one of the most adorable characters on the series. He is just so eager to learn, and the conversation between Claire and Denny in the street is by far one of my favorite moments. It’s certainly a strong Claire moment, but it’s a favorite moment overall because of Denny’s reaction.

He doesn’t doubt Claire when she says that she will do surgery. He just wants to understand how it is going to be possible. He is more than happy to learn from her, and he trusts her thoughts and experiments. Denny is a surgeon ahead of his time, and I would love to know what he could be in the 20th century.

John’s insistence on Claire marrying him

I had to laugh at the way John proposed to Claire. It was a statement and not a question, and he was so blunt about it. To be honest, it suited his character considering the news he heard in Outlander season 7, episode 10.

John didn’t need any time in figuring out how to handle the Claire situation. He just knew he needed to protect her, and marriage was his first thought. I don’t even think that this is just about Jamie and honoring him in some way. John cares about the whole Fraser family, and this was about saving Claire.
