There was a lot going on in the fourth episode of the Outlander prequel. It’s time to break down the top moments from Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4.

We continue to alternate between the two love stories as the main focus. That meant that episode 4 was focused mostly on Henry and Julia’s story, and their attempts to get back to each other. Of course, Julia has no idea that Henry is in the past with her, and Henry doesn’t realize that.

There were still elements of Ellen and Brian’s stories, though. It’s time for the two sets of parents to connect more, and it’s only a matter of time before Julia and Henry find each other. We hope!

Now we take a look at the top moments. These aren’t individual character moments, as we’ll look at them separately, but moments that focus on the story as a whole.

The prostitute telling Henry the truth in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

Henry gets a glimmer of hope when Una tells him that she’s found his Julia. It’s not at all, and it doesn’t take Henry long to see that. However, the deception goes further, as the prostitute tells Henry the whole truth. Una has faked it, fearing that she would lose Henry’s money.

I do appreciate the woman being honest, and this helps her gain Henry’s trust. While he doesn’t come for the things that most men do, he is still a paying customer for her, and she gets to see that not all men are pigs.

Simon’s reaction to Julia’s rash

When Julia is covered in a rash, Simon has this reaction that a man like him would have. He panics that it will be contagious, and he doesn’t want to get sick. This awful man was worried about death in Outlander, so now we get to see that in the younger version of the character, and I appreciated adding that it.

This also led to Brian getting to take Julia away from Castle Leathers for the day, as Julia said she needed to get a treatment from the apothecary. Of course, this was for another reason, but it all works out.

Brian surprised by Julia’s ability to read in Blood of My Blood

We have to remember the time period. Women didn’t read, especially women of lower standings. To be honest, I’m surprised Brian is so shocked, though, considering Julia said that she was from London and that she had been sold into servitude.

However, it was a good touch to see that Brian doesn’t know all that much about Julia. In a way, he’s been acting out of compassion and goodness, although he has his own plans.

Glenna immediately protecting Julia

We see in Outlander that Glenna Fitzgibbons is one to take people in and protect them. That’s not something new, as the younger version of her takes to Julia quickly. We get to see how she is more than willing to take Julia by her word as she gets into Castle Leoch.

I do wonder if this makes Glenna question things in the future when she finds out that Julia has gone. Of course, with nothing happening in Castle Leoch, she probably wouldn’t put it all together, and so, she can remain a good person.

The Grant people showing how people really will react

Henry realizes that to raise the rents, he needs to get the people to want to do it. He thinks about to the words of Julia about the lottery after World War I, and that gives him an idea. Deciding to do a lottery, he’s able to put Julia’s theories into practice.

Sure enough, it works. The people of Clan Grant are more than happy to spend more than they have or initially wanted to in the hope of winning something big. We get to see behavior play out. Of course, Isaac Grant doesn’t seen the benefit of this, which just shows that he had a different reason for raising the rents. It was to see Henry fail.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood airs on Fridays on STARZ.
