Outlander season 7, episode 15 brought drama and heartbreak. Jamie Fraser went through a world of emotions, and it’s time to break down his top moments.
This was a big episode for Jamie as he prepared for battle. In that preparation, he realized something that he couldn’t change, and it’s something that many people realize as they get closer to death. It certainly made for one of the top three moments in the episode. Here are the standout Jamie moments in Outlander season 7, episode 15.
A mention of his mom in Outlander season 7, episode 15
Every time Jamie has prepared for battle, he has thought about the people who have died before him. In the past, he’s thought of Dougal, his father, and other men. Before the Battle of Monmouth, he thought of his mother. His mom is such an important person to think about in this moment, as he thinks about the way he and Claire have been able to age when Ellen didn’t get to.
Jamie has always thought lovingly of his mother. There are stories that he’s told that makes it clear that he wanted a chance to have her in his life for longer. However, this moment also gives him a chance to tell us of his kindness toward the baby brother he never knew. I love the way he tucked the baby into his mom’s hair.
To be honest, I think this is foreshadowing something to come in the Outlander season 7 finale, but I’ll save that for a separate post.
Realizing the last words to William were in anger
There is one thing that we all wish when it comes to the end of lives. We want the last words we say to the people we love are good ones. As Jamie says that he just wants Claire to say “I love you,” he notes that he didn’t say that to William. The last words he spoke to William were in anger.
Claire doesn’t say anything to comfort him in this moment. That’s because there isn’t anything to say. Jamie just has to hope that if he does die, people will tell William how much he loved him. It’s such a bittersweet human moment.
Writing his resignation in Claire’s blood
There was one moment I was waiting for in Outlander season 7: the moment Jamie wrote in Claire’s blood. It’s the reason for the title of the eighth book, and the reason for the title of this particular episode. When Jamie shows his love for his wife, he always does it in a dramatic way.
Jamie was not going to leave his wife’s side. It didn’t matter that it was George Washington was calling on him. One of the benefits of being a general is that it came with the ability to resign. And so, that’s what Jamie does. Whether Washington will accept it or not is another thing.
