Jamie had some major moments as uncle, wife, and commander in Outlander season 7, episode 13. Here’s a look back at the episode to see his top ones.
The episode was a big one for Young Ian as he married his love. This led to some important moments for Jamie, as he stepped in as the role of father to Young Ian. This brought love and humor to the episode, especially with some of the answers to Young Ian’s questions.
Of course, there was the elephant in the room. It was all about what Jamie had done to Lord John Grey in the episode before. That had to come up during this episode, and it led to a great moment for Jamie.
Giving Young Ian some words of advice
The episode started with preparations for Young Ian and Rachel to marry. Jamie was there for his nephew, stepping into the role that Ian Murray would have played had he been there. The best part of the whole scene was about the advice for Young Ian’s wedding night.
It’s funny because Young Ian has been married before. Did he not worry so much about Emily on their wedding night? It seems odd that he didn’t mention Emily—just that he’d laid with girls before. However, it did open up to a great conversation that led to Jamie admitting that Claire had the experience and he didn’t.
“God no” should have been the title for the episode.
Feeling some guilt over Lord John Grey
Jamie told Denny that Lord John Grey can look after himself, but it’s clear from Jamie’s look that he is worried. He is able to admit this to Claire later on. While in bed, he admits that he still can’t shake the fact that Claire and John were together in the bed that they currently share. He also admits that he could forgive Claire but not John for things.
It’s clear that Jamie doesn’t really want to lose the friendship with John. That doesn’t mean he can forgive him just yet. Emotions are complicated things, and as much as men would like to say they don’t get emotional, many of them do—anger is an emotion! But it’s good to see Jamie be able to open up to Claire and run through his feelings.
Stepping out in the blue coat
As Claire said, at least the coat was the right color this time. There was something viscerally negative about Jamie wearing the red coat back in Outlander season 5. The show has been able to recreate that scene but in a good way. He steps out in the blue coat, and you can see that he’s proud to wear this color.
Jamie has made it clear that he is on the side of America. While he may not have been had it not been for Claire, he can see what this fight will do. He can see the world that could be created, and he is ready to help see it become that. There’s an honor in wearing the coat, and I’m glad we see that in this episode.
