Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4 put more focus on Henry and Julia, giving us a chance to get to know them more. Not only did we get their life in 1714, but we also went back to the 1920s.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4.

In the latest episode, Henry was sent on a rather impossible mission. The last thing the people of Clan Grant want to do is pay more in rent, but it was even worse having a Englishman request the rates. On top of that, the higher rates came with no warning, and people were not willing to pay out.

And so, we see Henry’s resilience and ability to think on his feet in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4. Here are his top moments from the episode.

A talk of lost hope

When Una brings him to a room saying that she’s found Julia, he is hopeful. Is it possible that Henry has found his wife? Sadly, it’s quickly clear that Una has given him false hope, and it’s crazy that she thinks she could get away with this.

However, Henry doesn’t get angry. Instead, he shows just how disappointed he is. All that hope he had has been dashed, and it hurts more than not finding Julia at all. There’s almost a sense that he’s giving up hope, but I don’t think he’ll ever stop searching.

Fighting back when things got tough in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4

We got a look at how PTSD affects people in Blood of My Blood. While a lot of shows will focus on the way memories come up in dreams, there are triggers in life that throw people off. Outlander showed that with Claire in season 2, and now we get to see it with Henry in the prequel series.

As people argue back about paying more rent, a fight breaks out. Henry quickly jumps across the table to fight, and we see him see a glimpse of his World War I past as he’s fighting one of the members of Clan Grant. All Arch Bug can do is watch in shock, as a man who is usually put together lashes out. It gives us a side of Henry that is important to show for future episodes, I bet.

Picking up the St. Anthony necklace

During the fight, Henry is quick to pick up something that he dropped. We quickly learn that it is something that holds sentimental value, a St. Anthony necklace. This is more than just his beliefs, but a look at his past and how he’s still holding it all together.

He has this tangible part of Julia with him. She gave him that to help him during one of his PTSD nightmares, and now he keeps it close to him. Julia has helped him so much and stood by him, and now he needs to find her.

Thinking back to the lottery in Blood of My Blood

To be able to get the rents that Isaac wants, he decides to do something that he once hated. We flash back to him reading the news about a lottery to help fund the government after World War I. It’s something that he despised, but he came around to the idea because of Julia.

She is the one who is able to show compassion and thought into the process. Because of that, he decides to use it to help raise the rents for Isaac Grant. Of course, the prize is something Isaac doesn’t want to give, but it’s clear that Henry had the right idea. He raised more than Isaac even wanted.

Coming up with the name Claire

When Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 4 started, we got a flashback of Julia pregnant with Claire. They were discussing names, and the end of the episode all comes back to that. Henry finds the perfect name if they have a daughter.

As Julia talks about how their future together is bright, Henry thinks about the name Claire. It means “bright” and “clear” in French, and he thinks that it suits their journey and their future. Julia can’t argue with that, and so, the name is set.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood airs on Fridays on STARZ.
