Claire getting back to Lallybroch in Outlander season 7, episode 9 meant some big reunions. It also meant righting a wrong from the books.

As Claire got back and heard about Michael in Paris, she knew that she had to tell the Murrays the truth about her time travel abilities. While this was a great moment, it stands out as one of the best moments of Outlander season 7, episode 9. It isn’t quite one of Claire’s best moments from the episodes. I do love that the show has righted that wrong from the books, though.

Let’s focus on Claire’s big moments, though. There are three that stand out as they show us who Claire is deep down.

Accepting Jamie needs to see Laoghaire

Jamie has unfinished business in Scotland, and he needed to deal with that in Outlander season 7, episode 9. He tells Claire that he’s going to see Laoghaire before riding off, showing just how far the two have come. It wasn’t to ask for permission, but to just make her aware of his actions knowing that this could come back to bite him.

Claire understands why Jamie needs to do this. She doesn’t argue against him seeing Laoghaire because she knows that Laoghaire does hold things over them right now. Instead, she makes a bit of a joke about it, and she makes it clear that she trusts him as he goes.

It does lead to a great line in the episode when Jamie has figured out a way to handle his Laoghaire problem. “Like it or not, I’m part of this family.” It’s so true!

Feeling guilty for knowing there is someone she can save

Claire gets a letter from Lord John Grey asking her to return to America to save his nephew, Henry. Jenny is in the room as she reads out the letter and discusses it with Jamie. She feels guilty, because she’s just admitted that she can’t save Ian from his diagnosis.

Jenny knows that Claire would help Ian if she could, though. And she isn’t someone who will let another man die because of her own selfish actions. There is someone Claire can save.

I just adore the way Claire thinks about Jenny in all of this, though. Claire knows that she can help Henry, and she knows that Henry will definitely die without her being there. However, she wants Jenny’s blessing first.

Accepting Jenny’s apology at the end

As Claire heads off back to America, there’s a chance for Claire and Jenny to clear the air a little. Jenny apologizes for the way she reacted when Claire told her she couldn’t help Ian. Jenny made it clear that while she acted out of anger and grief, it wasn’t the right thing to do.

Claire immediately accepts the apology. In fact, it isn’t really an acceptance of it because Claire completely understands the way that Jenny is feeling right now. Claire has been there with the grief of losing a husband—she’s had to mourn Jamie and Frank at different times.

We get to see this sisterly bond start to mend again. The two get to separate on good terms, showing just how far they’ve come. I think a younger Claire would have lashed out at Jenny a little because she wouldn’t have understood that grief.
