Claire had to marry in order to save herself in Outlander season 7, episode 11. Here are the best moments for the character throughout the episode.

There were some huge moments for Claire Fraser in Outlander season 7, episode 11. It’s time to look back at the five best.

Outlander season 7, episode 11 picked up off the back of John’s not-so-romantic proposal. The two needed to marry to protect Claire. It was the only thing John could think of doing. As much as Claire didn’t want to, she ended up having to. She knew it was the only choice.

Of course, she could have gone back to her own time period. That came up in the episode, and it’s one of the best Claire moments. This is for Claire the character—there is an outstanding scene for Caitriona Balfe as she shows Claire’s grief, but I can’t really say that grief is a “top moment.”

Usually, I do three best moments, but there was a lot of time spent on Claire throughout this episode. I couldn’t get it down to three! It’s five, instead.

Claire’s discussion with Lord John Grey in bed

The morning after THAT major moment, Claire and Lord John Grey need to work through the awkwardness. I love that John doesn’t try to sneak out of the room. The two simply have a discussion about things.

Claire asks about John’s love life. She doesn’t mean to pry, but she would like to get to know more about the man who is now her husband. It’s something that John isn’t used to, and I do think it helps to bring them both just a little bit closer. Claire shows that she does care about John, and she didn’t just marry him to safe her life—it’s not her life that she’s bothered about, anyway!

Questioning John’s hypocrisy

After John refuses to allow Henry and Mercy to marry, Claire takes the time to call John out. Usually, I dislike Claire for putting her 20th century ways on 18th century people, but this time, it’s different. She’s not calling John out for being a man of his time; she’s calling him out for being a hypocrite.

After all, John has done the things that he says Henry can’t. John has married the widow of a Rebel, and he is involved in illegal relationships. It is different for John due to where he stands in the family line. However, it doesn’t make it right. Claire knows when to stop arguing, though. She doesn’t know what it’s like to have a love that is illegal, and she can’t talk on that.

Not going back to the future in Outlander

Young Ian comes to Claire to talk about Jamie and how much he misses him. I adore that Ian feels comfortable enough to turn to Claire for this, but he also has a question. It’s one we’ve all wondered. Why wouldn’t Claire go back through the stones?

Claire has thought about this. The future isn’t her time anymore. She needs to help create the country that will become Brianna’s home. And so, that’s what she will do.

Playing the part of John’s wife

Lord John Grey made it clear to Claire that they have parts to play. While their marriage is a sham inside their walls, it has to look real to the outside world. Sadly, they’ve not done the best job of this to start with. Claire is initially unhappy with the idea, and she refuses to wear John’s ring and to go to the event that he’s putting on.

Claire does have a change of heart, though. She knows that she needs to do what’s right for John at this point. He took a huge risk in marrying her to protect her, and now she needs to be Lady John Grey. When she does, she does is beautifully, showing her care for John.

Seeing Jamie again in Outlander season 7, episode 11

Did anyone else feel the relief as Claire saw Jamie standing there at the end of the episode. You could see her whole body relax as her hopes came true. Jamie isn’t dead, after all.

There’s a beautiful moment as Claire and Jamie reconnect. Both of them know there isn’t much time, but they will take what they can. Claire also doesn’t want to let her husband go. She can’t bare to lose him again.

Sadly, this reunion is short-lived thanks to some redcoats. At least Jamie is back on the same continent!

Outlander airs on Fridays on STARZ.
