There is no doubt that we want more of The Buccaneers season 2. We just got started with the season and it seems to be over already.
The bad news is there isn’t a new episode airing tonight on Apple TV+. We are officially at the end of the road of the season, and now eyes are on whether there will be a third season of the period romance drama.
Why isn’t there a new episode of The Buccaneers tonight?
Each Wednesday, we’ve been able to wake up to new episodes of The Buccaneers season 2. It’s been a fun ride as well. Well, all except for the ending of episode 6 and the grief we felt during episode 7. However, there’s been plenty going on for our American women and their families, giving us a look at what it means to love and lose love in different forms.
There won’t be a new episode airing on Wednesday, Aug. 13 on Apple TV+, and this isn’t because of some odd break. The previous week saw the end of the road of the season. We’re not getting into any spoilers, but it’s the reason why the storyline seemed so climactic throughout!
Will The Buccaneers be renewed for a third season?
At the time of writing this, Apple TV+ hasn’t made a decision on the fate of The Buccaneers season 3. It’s possible that the streamer will, at this point, wait to see what the ratings are like for the whole season. Some people will wait for the entire season to drop to binge-watch it, and that can mean streamers wait a few weeks to a month or two to make a final decision.
Showrunner Katherine Jakeways had previously said that the crew were focusing on the second season as it came out. However, there will have been discussions about the future of the series and where storylines could go. This is needed to pitch storylines to Apple TV+. Even if the show has great ratings, if there isn’t a good story there, Apple won’t want to take it on.
It didn’t take too long for Apple TV+ to make a decision about The Buccaneers season 2, so we don’t think it will take long for season 3 either.
When could The Buccaneers season 3 premiere on Apple TV+?
If the series is renewed, then we’re probably looking at a 2027 release date. It took around 18 months between the first two seasons, so we could see something similar here, as long as the renewal is soon. That could potentially just get the season in December 2026, but it’s more likely that we’ll get it around early 2027.
