We know who Arch Bug becomes in Outlander, but we get to see a younger version of him in Outlander: Blood of My Blood. He’s already proving to be a tricky and angry man, and in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 6, we get to know a little more about him.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 6.

Up to this point, it’s not been clear where in Arch Bug’s timeline we are. We know that he married Murdina Bug at some point, and we also know that he still has to lose his fingers. However, he hasn’t shared anything about his life up to this point.

That changes in Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 6. As Henry tells Arch that he’s looking for his wife, who is pregnant with his child, everything changes. Arch opens up a little, and we finally get confirmation as to where he is in life at this point in the story.

Arch Bug is currently married to Murdina in Outlander: Blood of My Blood

During the episode, Arch finally shared that he has a wife back home. He also shared that his wife had a son, but that baby was stillborn. It’s a heartbreaking story for any parent, and it makes his discomfort with the woman telling Henry a lie later on all the more frustrating.

Arch shares that he almost lost his wife in childbirth. He knows what that loss is like, or what the fear of that loss is like, and he puts it on Henry.

This could be the first loss of many for Arch, though. He could soon learn more and more what this type of loss does to a person.

Murdina went to a cardine for help conceiving

We know that eventually, Murdina goes to see a cardine for help. She shares that she had four miscarriages in the space of a year, but she doesn’t share exactly when those miscarriages happen.

However, what she does learn is that if she successfully carries a child, she will lose her husband. In the end, she chooses her husband over children, showing her love for the man. We also know that Arch does deeply love Murdina, considering he goes on a mission for revenge after Murdina’s death at Ian’s hands.

There’s no sign that we’ll get to meet a young Murdina in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, but it would be good to see a conversation between her and Arch about what he did to convince Henry that Julia and the baby have died. Which side would she be on?

Outlander: Blood of My Blood airs on Fridays on STARZ.
