With the governor dead, there needs to be a new one. Lord John Grey has to figure that out in A Plague of Zombies Section 16.

This is a short section. It’s picking up off the back of the previous one, and it quickly works on pushing the storyline forward. One thing we get to see is that Lord John Grey is good at thinking under pressure.

John has his own tasks for the rest of the day. He needs to figure out what’s going on with all these murders and get to the bottom of some rumors.

Breaking down A Plague of Zombies Section 16

The section starts with John needing to appoint a new governor. That goes to Major Fettes, who probably doesn’t want that assignment with everything that has just happened. What if whoever killed Warren comes back for him?

On top of that, John doesn’t want it to get out that Warren is dead. This would just create panic everywhere, so he needs the assignment of Fettes to look as innocent as possible. That’s really not going to be easy with everything else that’s going on. People talk!

John needs to get to the bottom of the murders, though. He decides that it’s time to pay Captain Accompong a visit. As the captain of the maroons, this man should be able to give him some answers. It’s a dangerous mission, though. If the maroons are responsible for the murders, John is walking into the hornet’s nest.

It makes it even harder with some of John’s guards now missing. Has something happened to them? Are they in the same situation as Cresswell? The maroons are the only way to find out.

Could this chapter be used in a TV series adaptation?

If there is an adaptation of A Plague of Zombies, this chapter would need to be used. It helps to push the storyline forward, with John immediately getting into the work. He has to think on the spot to get to the bottom of the murder and the entire situation.

This could easily fit into the series. It’s short enough, so there’s no need to worry about timing available.
