Outlander Book Club: A Plague of Zombies Section 13 breakdown
Lord John Grey makes it back to the governor’s house in A Plague of Zombies Section 13. Of course, the drama isn’t over just yet.
This is another short chapter, but it sets up for something dramatic to come. John’s investigation isn’t over, and it’s not like the governor is safe just yet. What is going on in Jamaica?
Breaking down A Plague of Zombies Section 13
The section starts with Lord John Grey making it back to the governor’s house. It is dark, and the governor’s butler explains that everyone is in bed. That’s not surprising considering the hour, and John just heads up to his room.
Tom Byrd is there and happy to see John has returned safely. With everything that happened in the previous chapters, it’s not surprising that Tom is relieved. He may have worried that something happened, especially since John decided to pay a visit to Rose Hall instead of coming right back. We have to remember that John was attacked too.
John goes to sleep, but he’s woken up by Major Fettes, who is upset. Now this isn’t a man who usually gets visibly upset, so it’s already a concern. To hear him say “it’s the governor,” makes it clear that something bad has happened. After all that of trying to save the governor, it looks like it hasn’t been possible.
Not only does John now need to stop the rebellion, but he will soon have a real murder investigation on his hands. We’ll dive into that tomorrow!
Could this chapter be used in a TV adaptation?
If A Plague of Zombies was used, I could see this chapter being used. I actually think this would be a good time to incorporate the previous chapter. We could see John running through all his thoughts with Tom. After all, the two have been through a few murder investigations together before. John trusts Tom, and I would love to see him brought more into this investigation.
The ending of the chapter has to be used in an adaptation. It’s the next part of the plot drama. We need to find out what happened to the governor.
