It’s time to find out where Jerry has landed in A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 7. This is one of those times that we know more than the protagonist, as we know the buzzing he’s speaking of.
One thing I love about this section is that it describes the feelings of time travel more. We’re not fully certain that he has traveled just yet, but the way the mist and the way the plane fades from view are described, it’s like he is stuck right in the middle of the stone circle.
Breaking down A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 7
Jerry is in a lot of pain, but he doesn’t quite know what’s happened. All he knows is that he must have been thrown from the plane when he landed it, and now he’s angry at himself that he didn’t radio for help as the plane was going down. I have to wonder if he didn’t have enough to deal with, and it’s not like he couldn’t have said what was going on or where he was.
One thing that he notes is that he can’t smell petrol or burning, which means that the plane hasn’t caught fire. That does offer a little bit of hope, as maybe the radio is still working.
There’s a buzzing in Jerry’s ears, and he has a sudden wave of vertigo. As he grabs a stone in the prehistoric site that he’s in. He thinks about how Northern Britain is covered in these types of prehistoric sites, which means he has done some sort of research into it. That’s not surprising considering he’s a pilot.
As he grabs the stone for balance, the buzzing gets worse. He tries to look around for his plane, and he does see it with the nose in the ground, but it fades out of view. There’s a lot of mist around him, and the vertigo hits hard as he starts to feel like his limbs are lead weights. I think we all know what’s going on here.
Could this chapter be used in a TV adaptation?
There’s no doubt that we would need this chapter used if the book was adapted. Like the previous section, there’s a lot of internalized thoughts in this, but there’s also enough action to help. We will be able to see Jerry touch the stones, and Outlander has already given us the sounds of the buzzing of the stones.
It would be interesting to see how he sees the plane. I’d like to see the idea of him traveling through the stones and what that looks like. People don’t remember what it’s like to travel, except that it’s painful, but it would be something fun visually for us.
