Now it’s time for Jerry to get back home in A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 15. Considering he’s still in the middle of World War II, he was extremely lucky.

Jerry doesn’t have his military ID, which could have been suicide at the time coming across the troops. They could have easily thought of him as a spy, but maybe the look of him tells them that he’s just a soldier who has been off having some fun.

Breaking down A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 15

When Jerry gets to the road, he’s able to stop a truck carrying some troops. They are heading to Salisbury, which is a few hundred miles away from Northumbria, and it’s not exactly that close to London. However, he’ll take it, because he needs to get home.

The soldiers look at Jerry’s state of dress and poke fun at him. He must have been off having some fun, and now he’s in need of getting back to base. This is the point when Jerry is very lucky indeed. Considering he was without identification, he could have been arrested as a spy. Oh, how I would have loved to see that happen and then for Frank Randall to find him again!

We still don’t get to find out exactly when Jerry is, though. He asks the soldiers, but they just laugh at him, believing he must have had a big night drinking. I do feel like there would have been a better way for Jerry to ask questions about the year, such as asking about the latest news from Europe. It’s clear the World War is still going on.

Could this section be used in a TV adaptation?

I would love to see this section play out. I’d like to see everything, with Jerry explaining where he’s trying to go and trying to explain the situation. However, if A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows was adapted, I would want to see the soldiers react with a little bit of suspicion at first. There would have surely been some sort of conversation about him being a potential spy.

I’d also like to see Jerry try to figure out the year that it is. I do think he would have been much smarter than he was in the book, though, especially the Jerry we met in Outlander season 7.
