Jerry wakes up around the stones again in A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 14. The question is when he’s landed.

He can see the spot where his plane landed, but that spot is overgrown. That tells us that he is back in his own time, but not in the exact time that he left. I do have some questions about this considering how we see time travel work for Roger, Bree, and Claire.

Breaking down A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 14

Jerry wakes up, and everything is cold and wet. There is a mark on the ground where his plane landed, but his plane isn’t there anymore. The entire spot has overgrown, which tells Jerry and us that he isn’t quite back at the time he left.

We get to hear of what Jerry thought about. He thought about Dolly and her holding his baby son, Roger. Jerry did everything he could that the strangers told him, knowing that he just had to trust the strangers to get back to his own time.

However, he starts to worry that he hasn’t gotten back to when he should do. That’s when he starts hearing the sound of engines and the tires on the road. He knows from this that he is back home.

Of course, I can’t help but think about how time travel works with this section. The spot on the plane has overgrown, but we’re led to believe that Jerry was only in the past for a few days or weeks. It has to be months considering how long it would have taken Roger and Buck to get to Northumbria from the Highlands. But not years, right? So, why has Jerry ended up in a slightly different time than when he left? I wish we could get something about how time travel actually works.

Could this section be used in a TV adaptation?

We would need to see this part of A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows if it was ever adapted. After all, it’s the part that shows us Jerry gets back to his own time. Throughout the books and now in the series, Roger has never known his dad. After he finds his dad, he thinks that he should gain new memories, but he doesn’t, so we had to wonder whether he got back or not.

This confirms that he does get back. At least, he gets back to the future. Now we just need to find out when, but we would need to see Jerry get there and look around at the spot the plane used to be.
