Outlander Book Club: A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 12 breakdown

Jerry's situation isn't getting any better in A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 12. Here's our breakdown of the chapter.

Outlander season 1

We head back to Jerry in A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 12, and it looks like his fate hasn’t fared any better. He is still running into problematic people.

I can understand why some of these people would attack rather than listen. They are on the border to Scotland, and that brings its own issues. Then there’s the fact that they are countrymen and not in the city, so they are more wary of strangers coming their way. However, it still makes me feel sorry for Jerry.

Breaking down A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows section 12

It’s been two days for Jerry, and we learn that he did find someone who took pity on him and gave him some food and water. Now he’s back on a mission to find safety, and he knows that the best thing to do is to find the stones again. Whatever happened, happened there.

This is a hint that he’s accepting that he’s not in his own time period. Coming across people you don’t understand and who are going to attack you will do that, but I wouldn’t initially jump to being in the wrong time period. There would be a few, what I’d call, more logical explanations running through my head first.

However, Jerry is waylaid from the stones by the smell of food. He heads to the house that the smell is coming from, in the hope that someone will be nice to him. The person who owns the house is not nice at all, hitting Jerry over the head twice and knocking him out. Oh dear!

Could this section be used in a TV series adaptation?

I’d like to see a bit more than just the section if A Leaf on the Wind of All Hallows was ever adapted. The problem with just this section is that we don’t see what happened in the two days before this. I’d like to see him come across the people who gave him food, and for him to realize that maybe he’s not in his own time.

This section is important, though. After all, we know that Jerry ends up being taken and held captive, and it looks like this is the point that this happens. I don’t think we ever got a true idea as to how long Jerry was in the past when Roger and Buck found him, so this is a great look at how long it actually took.
