Dunk and Egg certainly make an unlikely duo, but they are a great team in the novels. It’s time to see their story play out on the screen on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
Well, it’s almost time. The series won’t arrive until the new year, but we have the official trailer that gives us an insight into what to expect. As well as the drama and the action, there will be some humor to the tale, and that’s what we’re going to need in the dark winter months.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms trailer
The official final trailer goes into Ser Duncan the Tall’s story. He’s a Hedge Knight, and he plans to make his late master proud. You see, he started off as a squire for Ser Arlan of Pennytree. When Arlan dies, Duncan will do what he can to prove that he is “no farmer.” He wants to be a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and he has a chance to prove himself at the upcoming tourney.
Along the way, he comes across Egg, a young boy who would like to be Dunk’s squire. The two may make an unlikely pair, but they certainly form a bond that cannot be broken. The bestthing is Egg is not afraid to tell Dunk the truth about mistakes that have been made.

Prince Aerion wants Duncan dead on the Game of Thrones prequel
The time period for the series is around 90 years before the Game of Thrones story, which means the Targaryens are still on the Iron Throne. Duncan looks up to the Royal Family, but the Royal Family doesn’t pay him much attention. That is until Prince Aerion wants Duncan dead.
Why? Well, in the books, it’s because Aerion assaulted a peasant girl, and Duncan wasn’t going to stand for that. That could have headed up with Dunk’s immediate end, but Egg stands up and reveals himself as Aegon Targaryen, Aerion’s younger brother.
Duncan has to face a trial, so he chooses a trial by combat. It looks like that’s what we’ll experience throughout the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I won’t share how the trial goes, but with Duncan being one of the main characters, you know that he has to survive. The outcome is intriguing, and it sets up for a story about a Hedge Knight and a prince who becomes a squire.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on Sunday, Jan. 18 on HBO and HBO Max.
