It’s time for a social event in A Fugitive Green chapter 10. After all, how else is Minnie supposed to learn more about the Greys?

This chapter takes place two weeks after the events of Minnie meeting her mother. Now is the time for her to carry out the tasks at hand. Remember, she has two jobs: one for her father and one for Harry, and she’s able to combine them both in one social event.

Lady Buford has managed to set up some social events for Minnie, and she is able to fit in well because she’s not looking for a husband. That means she won’t make other women jealous.

Breaking down A Fugitive Green chapter 10

Two weeks after meeting her mother, Minnie gets involved in the social circle of London. She is able to combine both of her missions with a new social event, where she chats with many of the women of the town. These women can end up jealous of newcomers, but Minnie sets herself up for success by making it clear that she is not interested in finding a husband.

It turns out that Esme Grey wasn’t the most liked woman in England. At least, not when it came ot the women. Other men loved her, but there is no hint of her ever having an affair with Nathanial Twelvetrees. When Minnie pushes for information about the duel, the women are sure it has something to do with business.

At the same time, they’re sure that Hal had a moment of madness. That’s possible considering Esme died in childbirth, and there is some sympathy there. However, Minnie does learn more about Hal Grey’s father and Hal’s refusal to use the title.

After that, Minnie runs into Harry Quarry at an event with sacred music, and they decide to pretend that they’re running into each other by chance. Harry gets straight to the point to find out what Minnie knows, but there’s nothing to report just now.

When Minnie asks about the location of the letters, Harry shares that they’re probably in the desk of Hal’s father, but he would never go looking for them. That’s not what a friend does. Minnie doesn’t want that, though. She thinks that the letters could end up anonymously in the hands of the Secretary of War. This could help Hal’s case, and while it is possible, Harry doesn’t seem all that convinced.

Could this chapter be used in a TV adaptation

If there were an adaptation of A Fugitive Green, this chapter would be needed. It would need to be split up a little, though, and we’d probably need to see a few of the social events that Minnie attends during this time. After all, it takes more than one event to find the right person and get them to talk.

However, we would need to see her learn more about the Grey family, and we would also need to see the meeting with Harry. This all leads to Minnie and Hal meeting in the end.
