Outlander season 7

A lot happened in Outlander season 7, episode 13. We got a wedding and some reunions, making it a great episode. It’s time to look back over it and pick out the top five.

It’s hard to narrow this list down for this episode. So much was going on, and there were just some wonderful moments. I want to focus on the episode as a whole, though, and not on the individual moments I’ve come up with for Jamie, Roger, and Brianna. Claire didn’t get as many moments, so that’s why there’s not a post specifically for her.

This moment brought us Young Ian and Rachel’s wedding, we got to see the Hunters’ backstory, and there were a couple of important reunions. Here are my top five moments from Outlander season 7, episode 13.

The women discussing weddings and marriages

Claire and Mercy help to get Rachel ready for her wedding in the episode, and it’s a beautiful moment that shows how women can support each other. Rachel notes that her dress is plain, and the other women likely think her boring because of it. That’s not the case at all. Rachel has found two people who look at the people from the inside.

Claire notes that the wedding is just a day. Marriages are many days, and that’s the part to focus on. Mercy agrees with this, and you can see for a moment she thinks about Walter and his loss. While she and Henry Grey want to marry, Walter is still a part of her heart. The closure from Claire helped, but I loved that Mercy gets a chance to show that loss.

In the end, Rachel has the people around her who she needs. She has those who encourage her to be herself and love Young Ian forever.

Denny sharing his guilt about taking Rachel away

The Quaker wedding was certainly an odd one. Claire and Jamie were like school children with their whispering, and considering their ages, it did annoy me a little. They should know better, and it felt like Claire was poking fun at Rachel’s religion, which didn’t match the previous support.

However, it did lead to Denny being able to speak about his guilt. Rachel chose to leave the Meeting with Denny after he was kicked out. He has always felt guilt for doing that, as it meant that Rachel had to follow a life with violence, which she doesn’t support.

It was great to finally get some backstory on the Hunters. As they become bigger characters in the series, we need to know more about them and their life before we met them. The show did a good job at being quick about that.

Young Ian and Rachel’s wedding night

Of course, a wedding means a wedding night. This was so Young Ian and Rachel—we got to see how Young Ian was gentle and we got to see how Rachel was apprehensive but excited. What’s important is in this moment we see just how much they love and trust each other. Rachel has heard that it can hurt, but she is ready to be as one with the love of her life.

I think the wedding night was done tastefully. We got a few parallels with Claire and Jamie’s wedding night, but we also got to see a wedding night that was full of love and respect. And yes, we can see the type of lover Rachel is. I guess that sort of “violence” is fine when it’s in the bedroom.

Roger not telling Buck about his parents

Buck notes that he never knew his biological parents. They have always been a myth to him. He doesn’t even know who they are. It’s interesting that he knows that his parents aren’t biological. At what point did that information not get passed down, since Reverend Wakefield had the family tree wrong?

Of course, we know that Buck has met his parents now. They are Geillis and Dougal, and Roger knows this. However, Roger doesn’t say anything, and I think this is a good thing. If Buck was going to learn the truth, it would have been better when Geillis and Dougal were there. Telling Buck now wouldn’t do him any favors, and it’s not like he would expect Roger to know this.

The two have come a long way, and they had a mission to carry out. Telling Buck would have thrown everything off track, so I’m glad Roger thought about that!

Finding out where Lord John Grey is

Earlier in the episode, Denny caught Jamie up on what had happened to Lord John Grey. We had left John being shot at in the woods as he escaped. Well, he managed to get away free, but he wasn’t back home. The end of the episode told us where he was.

We get to see the type of man John is when it comes to danger. He can think on his feet and lie when he needs to. I’ve got to say that the story didn’t seem quite believable in the way it was being told. It was like a kid trying to convince himself of the story and not just the people he’s telling it to. The Americans believed him, though, and now it’s time for Lord John Grey to get back home.

Bonus: Jemmy finding his way through the tunnel

I want to add in a bonus moment. We found out that Jemmy was trapped in the dam. It was the same location Bree was in Outlander season 7A when Rob and the other guys locked her in. Fortunately, Jemmy remembered the story. He's only nine, so the idea of him getting through the tunnel and being so brave is impressive. He reverts back to the child that he is when he gets to Brianna, and I love that we see that he can lean on her and be so honest.
