Just the Outlander chapter
The chapter starts with us catching up on where the MacKenzies are and why they’re there. They are staying with the Brumbys, and we’re reminded that Mr. Brumby commissioned Bree to do the portrait of his wife. They had a discussion about Bree charging by the inch of the portrait.
As they eat dinner, there is talk of what Roger will do while he is in town. He will deliver letters that he’s been tasked to hand out by the Presbyterian ministers. He’ll then do some tasks that Jamie has asked of him.
Mr. Brumby notes how good Jamie’s whiskey is, which Roger shares is for Jamie’s personal use. Mr. Brumby knows what that means. After all, he is a smuggler, and he likely knows that Jamie was a smuggler in Edinburgh. Even if not, it would make sense that a smuggler would expect that someone else is up to that, too, especially someone who makes whiskey.
The chapter ends with Bree and Roger discussing what’s going to happen within the next three weeks. They are close to a major siege to come, and Bree wants Roger to promise her that he will be inside when the fighting starts. That is something he plans on.
