The chapter starts with Rachel needing to feed Oggy. Nobody knows where the babysitter has taken the baby, so Rachel has to relieve herself outside. That leads to her running into Gabriel, an older man with a limp.

That man bumps into Silvia. It turns out that Gabriel is her husband—the one everyone has assumed to be dead. Gabriel was captured and tried to escape. He lost part of his foot for that, and he has since been sold to the Mohawk. He claims that he is not a slave, but if he was sold, what is he?

Gabriel is angry about what Silvia did to survive. However, he’s not one to talk. He has remarried, and he makes it clear that he doesn’t see a problem with polyamory. Well, Silvia is not going to stay with him, and she decides to divorce him on the spot. Gabriel says that he will take his daughters, but Silvia refuses to allow that to happen and she wants to see what Gabriel’s master will think of that.

Rachel bumps into Ian after hearing all this. She updates Ian on everything, while Ian updates her on how Brant is arranging a meeting between Ian and Emily. Sachem has taken a liking to Jenny, and the two have a contest going. In the end, Ian has to leave to find Silvia. It’s too dark for Silvia to ride alone.
