Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Young Ian getting to the Hardman house. He thinks that it is empty, but when he gets closer, he sees a young girl in the barn. Young Ian learns that Prudence, Patience, and baby Chastity are in the barn while their mother is in the house with a man.

Suddenly, Chastity kicks her sister, leading to shrieks. The man in the house walks out with a belt in his hands. He goes after Prudence before hitting Silvia over the face with his belt. Young Ian steps in to take care of the problem, leading to Young Ian killing the man. That’s when he learns that the man is a judge.

Young Ian makes it clear that the judge can’t be buried and he needs to get the family out of the area. They can go to his mother, and he goes off to get a horse while Silvia and her daughters pack. They are wearing the clothes they own and off they go to find Young Ian’s mother.

On the way, Young Ian finds out that there are two theories about what happened to Mr. Hardman. Silvia believes that her husband was shot with many believing him to be a Loyalist. The girls believe that the Indians killed their father. Young Ian points out that the Indians are good people, and he is a Mohawk.

Young Ian is able to dispose of the judge’s body and sends the judge’s horse off into the forest. It will look like the judge was killed on the road. Young Ian also thinks of Emily and how she would survive without a husband. At least Emily would have the rest of the Mohawk, and that comforts him.
