Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with Roger passing his ordination test. He needs to figure out when he will be ordained officially, but it is all a step in the right direction. Before he heads home, he decides to head to the pier to take a moment to think.

Fergus is there, and it seems like Fergus had an idea that Roger would come here. Fergus hands him some money that he won in betting on Roger passing his ordination test so that Roger can buy the items he needs to be a minister. I love how this family looks out for each other in all these small ways.

This is when Fergus shares that he has heard something about the coming war. He’s heard that the French are on the way to Charles Town to help, but Roger decides now is the time to share what’s actually going to happen. The French will go to Savannah and then to Charles Town. Charles Town will fall to the British, so Fergus needs to get his family out.

Now we find out how much Fergus knows about the family secret. He had overheard conversations, but he didn’t believe everything at first. It was only just before the Battle of Culloden that Fergus started to believe things. Jamie knew the way the battle would go by signing over the deed to Lallybroch to Wee Jamie.

Then Claire disappeared but Jamie made it clear that she wasn’t dead. When Claire returned, Fergus realized that she was a time traveler. He also understood that Roger and Bree were, too. Roger confirms that Jemmy and Mandy are also time travelers. This is a lot for Fergus to take in.

Roger says a prayer for his brother-in-law and for others who he will need to help when he is officially ordained.

The chapter ends with Fergus and Roger discussing where Fergus should go next. It looks like the family is off to Wilmington.
