Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with the Murrays and Jamie making it to Salisbury. Jenny doesn’t like the “newness” of the town, and I just love this comment. After all, America is still pretty new compared to Europe, even now.

Jamie is in town to meet with someone. He needs to speak with Francis Locke, the commander of the Rowan County Regiment of Militia. This is a chance to build a new alliance with someone who could help Jamie if and when the war reaches the Ridge.

It doesn’t take long for Jamie and Ian to realize that Locke is too far out. I’m surprised Jamie didn’t even realize this beforehand. He knew how far away Salisbury was. However, I think there’s also an importance in building any sort of alliance right now. It will help Jamie know who he can rely on in the future, and who he is willing to help.

At the end of the chapter, Locke invites Jamie to come and see a body. It turns out that Locke is also the county coroner. I love how Jamie takes Locke up on the offer, and I feel there is an ulterior motive for this.
