Just the Outlander chapter

The chapter starts with dinner. This one is pretty peaceful compared to one a few nights earlier. It turns out Mandy and her doll Esmeralda nearly set themselves on fire and Jamie had to douse them with warm potato water.

That night, Claire and Jamie take a stroll. It starts off light with Claire talking about how tomato plant leaves will offer a strong scent that is good for masking the smells from the privy. After some privy jokes, the two move on to a more serious discussion.

Claire makes it clear that she told Jamie the truth about John and her. She could have said that John was lying. Jamie wants to know why Claire told the truth, and she explains that she always promised the truth. This was an important conversation to have. But it’s clear that Claire is fed up of Jamie’s attitude, not understanding that he is entitled to work through the anger in his own time.

Jamie wants to know if Frank wanted the truth all the time. This is just to push Claire’s buttons. Jamie’s plan is to make Claire angry so that they can get on with their make-up lovemaking. Claire decides to play Jamie at his own game and takes control in that situation.
