Chris Larkin played a formidable antagonist in Outlander Seasons 5, 6, and 7A. Will we see him back as Richard Brown in Outlander Season 7B?
From the fifth season, we knew not to really trust the Browns. Our introduction to them was a standoff in Brownsville as Roger took people through the town to gather men for Jamie’s militia. Things took a darker turn when Lionel Brown and his men abducted Claire, raped and beat her, and were killed by Jamie’s men.
Of course, Richard was out for revenge. He nearly got it when it came to the murder of Malva Christie. With the talk of the affair, of course, Richard was able to gather men to grab Claire and take her for a trial—although, it was clear they didn’t really want her to face a trial and wanted to kill her on the way instead.
Will Richard Brown be in Outlander Season 7B?
Brown’s men also tried to make sure Jamie got on a ship back to Scotland. It didn’t work. Fortunately, Young Ian got help and the group rode out to save Claire. Richard was in Wilmington, where Claire awaited trial. He needed to see how it would all end.
Jamie knew that, and he went to see Richard the night Claire was freed. It was time for Jamie’s own revenge. He couldn’t allow Richard or his men to attack Claire or Jamie’s family again.
We never did see exactly what happened. The premiere episode cut to black as Jamie crossed the camera toward Richard. We’re left to assume that he killed Richard in revenge for everything that happened and to make sure that Richard didn’t come back to hurt his family. I usually say that if a death didn’t happen on screen, it didn’t happen, so there is a chance that Richard is still alive, but badly injured.
I doubt we’ll see him again, though. Outlander Season 7B will follow the rest of An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. Richard doesn’t show up in those books, so there’s no point in adding him in to the storylines, even if he did survive.
