Is The Empress based on a true story?
When it comes to dramas set in the past, we come to wonder if there is truth to the story. Is The Empress just made up, or is it based on fact?
There are plenty of historical dramas out there. When it comes to watching them, we wonder if there is any truth to the story. That’s especially the case when the stories are based on some real people in history.
The Empress tells the story of Elisabeth of Bavaria, who later becomes Elisabeth of Austria. If you look at history, you will find there is a woman who shares her name. Is this historical drama based on truth, or is it just a show that happens to use the names of people from history?
The Empress is based on a true story
The series is, in fact, based on a true story. The Empress follows the life of Elisabeth “Sisi” von Wittelsbach, Princess of Bavaria.
We open the story with a young Sisi hiding behind a curtain. There’s a suitor coming, and just like many women of her time, she’s expected to be a pawn in the game of marriage and power. However, Sisi doesn’t want to marry just any man.
When it comes to a trip to Vienna for her older sister Helene to meet Emporer Franz Joseph, whom she is supposed to marry, things take a turn for Sisi. Franz falls immediately in love with Sisi instead, and he decides to propose to her. She decides that this is the man she is destined to be with, and we watch the story of how she would become the Empress of Austria.
Of course, there are dramatic elements added to the story for the sake of entertainment. That being said, there are parts of Elisabeth’s story that actually happened, and this is a fun and romantic look at the highs and lows of Sisi becoming the Empress of Austria.
